What if…God said it and it is true!?!

What is truth?

How can you be sure?

These are some common questions of our day.  We as humans often struggle with truth.  In reality, however, I think the reason we struggle so much with truth is that we don’t want to believe it.

Tough thought, I know.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

If Jesus is the Truth, then He is the only Way.

We don’t want just one way…we want options.  It’s the nature of our culture.  We have options in almost anything else we face in our daily life.  It’s not fair to not have options.  It’s even offensive to only offer one choice, one way.

As I am progressing through an indepth study of Isaiah right now, I can’t help but see how often God speaks through Isaiah to the people (the people of that day as well as the people of our day).  Repeatedly, God lovingly has Isaiah warn the people and tell them the Way.  He even tells them the gruesome details of the consequences of choosing not to follow His Way.  He gives warning after warning, detail after detail, chance after chance.

Some do choose to change their ways and follow The Way, yet so many more do not.

And, as history can prove, the foretellings of Isaiah about what God would have to do to those who chose to deny Him and live only for themselves did come to pass exactly as they were promised.  And some are still to come…

This may seem harsh, but think about it.

God loves us all enough to warn us when we are headed in a damaging and destructive way and to provide a Way for us to escape the necessary judgment and penalty for sin.

Because He is holy, He cannot tolerate sin.  Yet, because He is loving He has made a Way that frees us from the penalty of our sin…AND He has made that Way known to us…repeatedly.  Jesus is that Way…the only Way.

Our holy and just God sacrificed His most beloved and only Son in a gruesome death to pay the price we could never pay in order to pay our ransom and redeem us in a way that only He can.  Then, He doesn’t just stop there; He transforms us into someone we never imagined we could be.  As I have heard someone say, “Come as you are, just don’t stay that way.”

So, you may think, like many, that a loving God could not also be a God of wrath and vengeance.  But, as a holy God and a just God, He is.  The wonderful thing to grasp in this is the fact that He has promised that His children (those who believe in Him and His Son’s work in our behalf on the cross) will never have to endure that wrath.  However, just as surely as He has promised that His children will not face His wrath, He has stated that He will have vengeance on those who ultimately defy and deny Him.

So, I challenge you with this—

If all of this stuff I have just said is not true, what will it hurt and what will you lose if you believe it and live as if it is?

BUT…

If what I have said, and more importantly what God has said through His Word, IS ultimately Truth, which side of His wrath would you like to be on when that day comes?  Will there be a day when you will regret fighting that tugging in your spirit?

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says,“At just the right time, I heard you.
On the day of salvation, I helped you.”

Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.  – 2 Corinthians 6:1-3

It’s not too late now…but one day it will be.

God is the only way, and I for one do not want to be on the wrong side of wrath. God is the only one who can save us, His words are true, the bible is His record for us to follow. We need to pray, read and live God’s word.

      Amen, Sandra! Amen!

I just read this line to my son tonight out of “The Chronicles of Narnia” and thought it fit this very well:

(in a description of Aslan the Lion when the children first see him)
“People who have not been in Narnia sometimes think that a thing cannot be good and terrible at the same time. If the children had ever thought so, they were cured of it now. For when they tried to look at Aslan’s face they just caught a glimpse of the golden mane and the great, royal, solemn, overwhelming eyes; and then they found they couldn’t look at him and went all trembly.”

  2. I appreciate how you pose the questions at the end of the entry. I am one of those who does have doubts at times, and have decided that at those times I will continue to believe “just in case”. But, in my heart, the belief never completely disappears…my heart knows the truth.

    Thanks for sharing.

      Melinda,

You are so welcome. If we get honest, we all struggle with the thoughts you mentioned. Sharing them honestly and holding the light of His Word to our thoughts and questions is what helps us to gain strength and understanding on our journeys. Without this kind of honesty, people who feel this way often give up because they think they are the only ones who have ever thought or felt such things. He wants us to build up His Body (each other)…therefore I try to do my part in trusting Him and obeying, which for me includes writing what He lays on my heart and sharing it with whomever may be led to it.

Bless you, Melinda! I do admire your journey toward physical fitness and strength as well as spiritual. Way to maintain and improve that temple of the Lord with which He has blessed you. You inspire me to strive to do the same…this year. Will let you know how that goes periodically. 😉

      Because of Who He is,
      Haelie

Hey Haelie the one thing that comes to mind is the book I read by Max Lucado, I love you just the way you are but I want you to be just like Jesus. Which also made me remember the old saying, you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free. Which I put in my prayers every night for those who sin, or persecute me. I ask God to let them see Him for who He really Is and to let them see the Light and know the Truth so the Truth can set them free as well. The sad thing is that there is only one true source and that is God and there will be many that turn Him down 😦 Your friend misterp

    • Haelie says:

Yes, MisterP, it is sad that our loving God gives so many chances to trust Him yet so many will still choose not to. Thanks so much for stopping by here and sharing your thoughts.

        Haelie,
What you wrote is what many of us needs to be reminded of. The only truth comes from our God…and is written in the bible. You are right when you say that the only way to God is from our one and only Saviour Jesus Christ.
It truly is a shame that the majority of people in this world don’t believe in the Truth. It is up to us to try to get people turned around.
I myself….I believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the fact that the bible…His word…is true!!!
Things are already happening that have been written in His Word.
        How can you not believe???
I’m glad you wrote this….it’s always good to be reminded of the Truth of God!
        In Christ’s name,
        Donna

        Donna,

So glad you were inspired and reminded of the Truth of God by this! So great to hear from you. o)

        Bless you!

    Hey Haelie,
I loved reading this. I read the book of Isaah a couple months ago….and it was a good one. At first, it scared me (is that the fear of God)? Because So many wicked things were going on and a lot of people were destroyed by God. Granted they were warned and chose to ignore the warnings.
As I kept reading…I realized that all God wants for us is His unconditional love….as He loves us unconditionally!
All we have to do (and this is hard)…is to love one another and help one another…obey the Ten Commandments….and come to Him, no matter what is going on in our lives.
You put my favorite scripture in there …..which is…..

But they that wait upon the Lord
    shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings
    As eagles.
    Isaiah 40:31

Thanks for sharing this post….and keep them coming.
    Blessings to you and yours,
    Donna
